Malabaracirco was created with the intention of promoting and enhancing the world of modern circus. Since it’s creation our performers have studied and trained in various circus schools both in Spain and abroad (Carampa – Madrid, Circomedia – Bristol, U.K., Cuban National Circus School – Havana …). With specialists in juggling and manipulation, acrobatics and trapeze, magic and illusion, clown and physical theatre, teaching and training we have devised and performed in a wide variety of shows and conducted numerous courses and workshops in a range of circus and theatre skills...

A.C. Malabaracirco was founded in 1995 as a result of the First Cantabrian Juggling Festival held in Mogro in 1994 and as a consequence of a growing desire to bring together a group of young people with a shared interest; circus. The specific objectives of the association include working towards a greater acceptance of circus skills as an educational tool and demonstrating the social benefits of modern circus and theatre for young people in their immediate environment.

Over the years we have taken part in numerous courses, workshops and circus conventions both within Spain and overseas with the intention of deepening and furthering our knowledge and training but also as a way of forging links and keeping in contact with the fraternity of circus performers, trainers and enthusiasts.

As a result of this ongoing training and a desire to spread what we have learnt to others we have developed our own programme of workshops and courses which have been taken on by a variety of institutions or organised on a private level (see personal c.v.). Malabaracirco has also organised and ran eight regional juggling conventions in Cantabria.

Malabaracirco has extensive experience in teaching courses and workshops in a vast variety of socio-cultural situations and to diverse age groups such as school children, adolescents and adult groups. We have coordinated and collaborated in numerous educational programmes in schools and colleges in Cantabria liasing with both physical education and theatre teaching staff. Malabaracirco has also taken part in extra curricular programmes directed at young people (“La Noche Joven” en Santander, “Entre Luces” en Torrelavega, “Activa-T” en Santoña, “Vive la Noche” en Cabezón etc.), drug education campaigns, summer camps and holiday play-schemes.

We have undertaken work for local councils, the regional government, collaborated with local and national theatre companies and have a close working relationship with organisations such as S.O.A.M., A.C.C.A.S., and Brenes XXI with whom we have developed part of the programme of international socio-cultural work-camps.
As a joint initiative with Torrelavega City Council, The Department of Youth Affairs of the Cantabrian Government and Malabaracirco we set up the Circus and Physical Theatre School in 2005 after the success of the School of Acrobatics in Santander.

Throughout it’s ten years of existence Malabaracirco has created various circus and theatre shows: “Enredo Malabar”, “A Contratiempo”, “Zumba”, “Zanzinni Brothers”, “Descontrol-a-2”, “Lo de Dentro Fuera”, “Nebulosas”, “Noches de Fuego” y “Cabaret Cruzero”, which we have performed in numerous festivals, conventions and fetes.

Malabaracirco has also put together site-specific and commisioned shows for medieval markets, carnivals, music festivals, “los Baños de Ola”, “El Día de Cantabria” and other social and cultural events and festivities.

In June 2004 Malabaracirco travelled to Senegal to take part in the 6th Edition of the Dakar Children’s Theatre Festival with the show “Zanzinni Brothers” and circus skills workshops.
